What do you guys think about having a TAF tournament. Something I would put on via outdoor rec here in Humphreys (just to get the word out)? Thoughts ideas more than likely a cash tournament unless we can ask YT or other tackle shops to supply prizes

On or off base? And if it's on can I come in? I don't mind not participating, as long as I can be there. I think it could be a really good idea.

i think it's a great idea. i think it should be off post, or all we would catch is snakeheads at the pond on post. we could keep it local or a near by lake, where we can do two man teams on a rental boat. the only thing that would be hard is weighing the bass, we would have to wait until the end and try to keep the bass alive w/o livewells. we do have 2 bags & 1 livewell box that will help. so that could be 3 teams of two. unless we can get more bags. i say $20 pot. maybe $5 or $10 biggest fish. i say 2 fish limit per person. 4oz dead weight penalty. no live bait.

Shore or boats? If it's boats, the first one that pays me $100 can ride with me.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Kevin, the only fishing on base is for snakeheads (which I have to go check out)
philipblogg,
We must have posted at the same time...have you fished for snakeheads in that pond? One of my friends was telling me today they are catching 60cm snakehads out of there with frogs. I haven't caught one yet over here, I hear they put up a good fight.

We'd have to work something out with a boat rental place if we do boats. I'd hate to show up at a lake only to find out there weren't enough boats for everyone that signed up. Also, it may be be a good way to raise funds. Maybe do a 75/25 split of proceeds, with the 75 going to the winner's pool and the 25 going to Team America, or if we're feeling generous, some sort of charity.
While I'd love to do boats, depending on the amount of people we can attract it may be better to do shore fishing. I also think it might be a good idea for the four guys on the team not to participate, since we're going to need people to run the event and it would seem unfair if we won.

The way that we fished some of the lakes back home was that we just payed 20dollars a person and we wrote down the best 5 lengths of fish. But that's on the honor system. lol That does not work all the time.

Tournaments in Iraq were on small bodies of water. MWR ran the tournaments and would continually go around weighing and measuring fish along the bank. If you were to run a walking tournament, you could limit the area of the lake and still use 1, maybe two boats to check the fish. That way the fish can be released much sooner and have a better chance of survival. Once the temperatures got to hot, the tournaments only lasted until 1200.
I will check my equipment here and see if I brought a weigh-in bag to Korea. I know I did not bring my aerator or large cooler. Sorry.
